The picture below is of my great-great-grandfather, Richard Rush Puffer.

I didn’t know much about him until I started working on my family geneaology. But through the last six months and a little bit of research, I’ve learned a lot about this man.
He was born in Massachusetts in 1833.
He was a memeber of the Union Army and enlisted in Company E, Illinois 8th Infantry Regiment on 25 Jul 1861.
He fought at the Battle of Shiloh. His Bible was returned to his mother by a Confederate Soldier who found it on the Battleground at Shiloh.
He mustered out on 30 Jul 1864.
He was appointed Postmaster for Odell, Illinois by President McKinley.
And there is an archive of letters between him and his sister Ann Adelaide from the Civil War that were mentioned in a book. And I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of copies of these documents from the Chicago Historical Society.

Too cool! I love ancestry.com, and am WAY into genealogy. I must say, I do see a bit of your brother Mike in your great-grandfather….what do you think?
Actually I see Rick (my oldest half brother) in the picture more than I see Mike.
