December 19 – Healing What healed you this year? Was it sudden, or a drip-by-drip evolution? How would you like to be healed in 2011? (Author: Leoni Allan)
What I think has helped me to start healing this year is art, photography and gardening.
The Art is something new for me in that I have found a place to play. I’ve needed to play this year. I honestly don’t think I’ve played enough this year. However, I have the opportunity to change that with next year.
Photography: Originally, when I started writing this, I didn’t think I’d done as much photography as I had. I was suprised with how much photography I had done, when I thought I had done none is some parts of this year. I spent a lot of time taking pictures of people, animals and things. I learned that some of the same techniques that I’ve used for thing photography can be applied to animals and even people.
Gardening is my centering activity. I can forget what I was dwelling on when I started and there is something calming about steady, rhythms of working in the dirt. I feel connected to the planet and the world around me. I can watch butterflies flitting about, listen to birds sing, and occassionally be given a bath by a couple of over-zealous boxers who love their Auntie Paula to death.

I don’t know much about 2011, but I do know I need to do more healing.

This: ” I can forget what I was dwelling on when I started and there is something calming about steady, rhythms of working in the dirt” is so absolutely perfect. It’s what I love about meditative acts — gardening, cooking, yoga, mountain climbing, [insert your favorite here] — just doing and letting the movements of your body wash the worries away.
