Commuting

This last year, I wasn’t as good as I’ve previously been about using the bus. I did a lot of driving and put a lot of wear and tear on my car in one year. I’ve been determined since the start of the new year to cut back on my driving. First of all, it stresses me out and secondly, I’d like to put the time I use for driving towards accomplishing other things (like writing posts for this blog and my other blogs, reading, or crafting). And finally 12x$140=too much money going to the parking garage people.

I’m very fortunate in that I work for a company that encourages you to keep your car off the road. I get a decent monthly subsidy for using Metro. They offer van pools. We can work longer days and flex one day a week. We can tele-commute. I’ve even used the bus to go from my home-based park-n-ride to Bush-Intercontinental for a business trip. I also try to ride-share if I’m driving.

Commuting whether it via public transit or sitting down at my computer and logging onto the VPN at work is a great way to stretch my budget, get some down time for myself, and help reduce my carbon footprint. I’m looking at other ways to reduce the amount of gas I use.
