Song of the Day – Where are You Going?

It’s a Dave Matthews kind of morning. After having the furry alarm clock wake me up by climbing on the bedside table and keep me up by demanding attention, I find myself sitting here bleary eyed and not quite awake. So I need something dulcet to my ears to bring me to full wakefulness.

Song of the Day – Message to Myself

I love the lyrics of this song by Melissa Etheridge. It reminds us that we need to be okay enough to love ourselves and that we choose a lot of how we feel.

Song of the Day – Strange Fruit

R. sent me this link for Billie Holiday’s Strange Fruit. It’s one of the first anti-Racism songs ever recorded.

Song of the Day – Beautiful Tango

I stumble upon Hindi Zahra while visiting Sunona. This 30 year old songstress is based out of Paris, but is Morroccan by birth. Zahra’s got a soulful voice that switches easily between English, French and her native Berber.

Song of the Day – Little Lion Man

Okay I’ve been on the hunt for new music. So I’m going to to start sharing songs (old and new) that I really like.

First one out of the gate is Mumford and Sons Little Lion Man. I love the bluegrass sound of the banjo mixed with the other instruments, but it’s got a modern twist to the lyrics, that make it outside the realm of typical bluegrass.

Warning: The F word is in the lyrics so if you don’t want your kids to hear such language, make sure they are out of the room when you check this out.
