I heard through the grapevine about the Wikipedia Loves Art Project. I am very fortunate that in Houston the Houston Museum of Natural Science is participating. I went to the museum this afternoon and spent time at the Cockrell Butterfly Center. I saw lots of interesting things and took lots of pictures. The cool thing is that some of my pictures might end up on Wikipedia illustrating articles.
Some of my favorite pictures from today:

My Grama Pauline and I have been connected at the hip since I was a little girl. I can remember laying across on her lap and her scratching my back until I fell asleep. And when she went home after a visit, often I would cry my heart out because I didn’t want her to go.
Every year at Christmastime, Grama makes cookies – pfefferneuse, Special K cookies, sugar cookies, and gingersnaps. My favorites are the gingersnaps. Grama Pauline recently sent a few dozen gingersnaps. There’s nothing better on the whole planet than gingersnaps that Grama Pauline has made dipped into a big glass of milk.
A few years ago, I asked her for the recipes for her cookies. I was afraid that if I didn’t get them, that they would be lost for ever. I’m going to share the Gingersnap Recipe
Grama Pauline’s Ginger Cookies
2 eggs beaten
2 cups sugar
1.5 cups Butter Flavored Crisco
8 Tbsp molasses
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp ginger
4 tsp soda
4 cups flour
Cream together eggs, sugar, Crisco and molasses.
Sift together cinnamon, ginger, soda, and flour.
Mix sifted ingredients into creamed mixture. Chill 1 hour. Roll quarter-sized balls. Dip 1 side in sugar. (Do not press; they will crack by
themselves). Place in 325 degree oven. Bake 10-12 minutes and let cook on a rack.

Katie Lauren has her inner 8 year old with ADHD and I have my inner 5 year old. My five year old was clapping with glee this afternoon while I attended the Rodeo Round Up for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
It was a beautiful afternoon for the rodeo kickoff and there were all kinds of people teaming around the park area in front of City Hall.

There were booths, free food and lots of critters running around.

But my inner 5 year old screamed in joy when she saw these guys:

And my inner 5 year old screamed, I want to get on one!!! And so I did.

As of this afternoon, I have my logo loaded to my etsy site, but I don’t have any of the supporting text done. That will be completed over the next few days. Then its going through the mountains of pictures and pulling the ones I’ve identified as wanting to sell. Indie Love, whom I know from one of the fitness boards I’m on, has been encouraging me to take this step and I’m finally ready.
I’ve been working on it bit by bit over the past month or so, and it shouldn’t be much longer before I launch. I’m nervous about this, but in a good way. And at least I’ll be able to better afford this photography habit I’ve developed.

With week 2 of the 70x7project under my belt, I find that I am pleasantly tired. Part of that tiredness comes from the change in routine. R has been staying with me since last Friday night because he’s trying to quit smoking. I usually am in bed by 10 and the past few nights it’s been later. It makes for a sleepy Paula at work.
I’m also busy. Work has been crazy busy with meetings for the last week and half. I’m getting stuff done, but there’s still so much more to do. Home life isn’t much quieter. I get done with work and I have to get stuff ready for work the next day, do a bit of cleaning, get a photograph in for the day and write something. I’m finding myself even making good use of the time on the bus (it’s amazing how many coupons you can clip on the bus). And in between all that, I’m working on getting my Etsy Site set up so I can sell some of my photographs.
I’m looking forward to this weekend though – lots of photography opportunities. The Houston Zoo is doing a photography day. I’ll be up early Saturday morning and my friend Linda and I will be doing something that we have talked about for a long time – going out and shooting some pictures together. Depending on what time I get done at the Zoo, I might go ahead and wander over to the HMNS and do my pictures for the scavenger hunt. I want to win those tickets to see the Terra Cotta Soldiers exhibit that is coming. There’s also an old fashioned trail ride in the area for the upcoming Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
And with that, it’s time for me to head for bed.
